A transcript is a word-for-word script produced from an audio or video file. In addition to the narration of dialog, transcripts can include descriptions of sound effects, and speaker information. Many platforms like iTunes U, Blackboard and lecture capture systems allow transcripts to be downloaded and used as study tools.
Why does CaptionSync deliver human-generated transcription instead of speech recognition results?
We have evaluated the use of speech recognition tools for generating transcripts and found the technology is not reliable enough to be able to deliver consistently accurate results. Even at accuracy rates of up to 80 – 90%, comprehension loss at that level is deemed inadequate by educational institutions for academic materials, and does not satisfy accessibility mandates.
