Hello. This tutorial will guide you through captioning your Camtasia presentation. Captioning your Camtasia presentations has become significantly easier with the release of Camtasia Studio 7.1. Starting with version 7.1, Camtasia Studio allows you to easily export an audio track of your presentation, and import a caption file. This tutorial will show you how to take advantage of these new features with AST's CaptionSync service to quickly and easily caption your presentation. Captioning your Camtasia presentations not only make your presentations accessible and compliant, but also allow you to enable powerful search features for your viewers - enabling them to quickly navigate your presentation to find the information relevant for their needs. So, let's get started. First, record your presentation as you normally would; if you previously recorded it, open it in Camtasia Studio. I'm just going to import an existing presentation. And drag it to the video timeline. And there's our presentation. Now, to caption it we need to extract the audio track of your presentation in order to create the captions. Go to the "File" menu and select "Produce Special" and then "Export Audio As". CaptionSync can accept either a wav or a mp3 file, so you may export in either format, but generally a mp3 file will be smaller and easier to upload. Once you have exported the audio, log into your CaptionSync account and go to the job submission page. Now, select the audio file you just exported as the media file you want to caption. If you created a transcript to record your presentation from, you may submit that as the transcript for the media file; if not, you can get AST's professional transcribers to create the transcript for you. Now, click the "Advanced Settings" button. Camtasia can import either an SRT or a SAMI file, so ensure you have at least one of those in your output selections. You may select other output types if you like. Now click on the "Caption Appearance" tab. It is best to select just one line of captioning, and allow Camtasia to take care of where to put the line breaks. How many characters you can fit on a line will depend on the font size you use, and on the width of your video. Typically you will want something somewhere between 64 and 80 characters. If you are not sure, don't worry - you will be able to adjust the text once it is imported into Camtasia, and you will be able to change the line length later if you need to. After your settings are complete, save the settings, and then submit your job. CaptionSync will upload your audio file, perform the captioning process, and return your results by email. When your results arrive, save them on your disk, and return to Camtasia. Select the "Captions" tab. If this tab is not present, just select the "More" tab to locate it. Now click the "Import Captions" button and browse to the caption file you just received from CaptionSync. Now, you can adjust the text font and size to suit your needs. Camtasia allows no more than 3 lines of captions, so you may want to scrub through your captions to ensure none are longer than 3 lines. If you see text in red, it means the caption is too long and will not display properly. You can either shrink the font to fit, or use the CaptionSync "redo" feature to regenerate the caption file with a shorter line length. That's it - congratulations, you have captioned your Camtasia presentation! You can now Produce your project to create web, iPhone, iPad, YouTube and other versions -- and the captions will be exported to each version.
