Hello, this is Art Morgan from Automatic Sync Technologies, and in this video we're going to demonstrate how to use CaptionSync's automated transcription and captioning workflow with the Kaltura online video platform. Kaltura introduced a number of new features related to closed captions and video search with their Eagle release of the SaaS platform in September of 2011. This video assumes that your account is on the Eagle release or higher, and that you have the new captions features enabled. One easy way to tell if you have these features is to click on a video when logged into the KMC. You should have a Captions tab near the bottom left, and when you click on it you'll see that you can associate one or more caption files with the video. One nice thing about this feature is that once the captions are added, they are saved on the Kaltura CDN. So you have no more worrying about hosting the files yourself, creating crossdomain.xml files, or adding additional possible points of failure. First let's go through the setup steps on your Kaltura account. This is desribed in more detail in the PDF tutorial that we have on our website, but it takes only a couple of minutes and you only need to do it once. The first step is to create two new categories for your account: a top-level category called CaptionSync, and a sub-category called Requested. After your first submission CaptionSync will create two additional subcategories: In Process, and Complete. To create the initial categories just click Edit, add the catories, and then Done Editing. Next you will create a special playlist for the requested videos, and finally you'll create a feed that is based on the playlist. Click on Add Rule Based Playlist, call it Caption Playlist, and select the Requested category. I already have one here, so I'll cancel that and show you the saved playlist. Next you create a feed based on the playlist. Again, the details are in the PDF, but here's what it looks like. Make sure that your feed type is Google, that the content flavor is Basic - Small, and that you include your own domain name, followed by ?videoid=, just like in the example. You can go ahead and copy the RSS feed URL to your clipboard, as you'll need it for the next step. Next we'll go over the setup on CaptionSync. Stay logged into the KMC, as you'll need to copy some additional parameters from Kaltura. Navigate to Settings, Kaltura Settings. You can paste the feed URL that you just copied into this middle field. To get your Partner ID and Admin Secret go back to the KMC, and click on Settings, and then Integration Settings. Once you have copied both of these fields, click Update Settings. Next, make sure that you have set your standard caption output settings to include one of the preferred Kaltura output formats. We recommend DFXP timed text with begin and end tags. You can see your output format settings with "Click to see outputs," and you can always change your outputs by clicking on Advanced Settings. That's all there is to the setup. Now we'll go back to the KMC and show you how easy it is to submit videos for transcription and captioning. Whenever you want to add a video to your caption request queue, all you have to do is add the category CaptionSync->Requested to the videos. There are several ways to do this, but easiest, and funnest, is to just drag the videos from the Entries Table into the Requested category on the left. You can also add categories at upload or ingest time, for example if you use the CSV format to specify a list of videos that you are uploading, or you can click on the video in the entry table, and add the category under the Metadata tab. The rest of the captioning process is automatic. CaptionSync will check your account every 20 minutes, and when it finds a new video in the Requested category it will move it to In Process. Once the transcription is complete we add the caption to the video and change the category to Complete. Once your videos are captioned you can use any of the caption-enabled Kaltura players to show captions to your viewers, and you can also add video search features to your websites.
