Hello, this is Art Morgan from Automatic Sync Technologies, and in this tutorial we are going to demonstrate how to caption Blackboard Collaborate archives. CaptionSync users can submit a list of Collaborate archives and receive back videos in the M4V video format with a subtitle track. When the job is finished, you can download a new video file that can be viewed with subtitles on any computer or device with iTunes or Quicktime, including mobile devices such iPods, iPhones, and iPads. The setup steps in CaptionSync are really simple. In your CaptionSync account, just make sure that your standard caption output settings include the SRT output format. You can do this under Caption/Transcribe, New Captioning Submission, Advanced Settings, Output Types. Make sure that Save Above Settings as Default is checked, and click Apply Changes. Now you are ready to submit Blackboard Collaborate archives for captioning, which can be done under the New List of URLs for Captioning section. Enter a description for the archive, and any notes for the transcriber. Now you can enter one or more URLs for Blackboard Collaborate archive files that you wish to have captioned. The archives can be in either JAR or VCR format. Note also that these URLs must be accessible outside your firewall. The help text available by clicking on the question mark icon next to the URLs field gives more details on acceptable URL formats. When the captioning job is complete the status will change to Succeeded on the Submission History screen, and you will also receive email notification from CaptionSync indicating completion of the job, unless you've disabled the notification feature. If you navigate to the Submission Details page, you'll see a section called Encoded Podcast Results, and you can right click on the M4V file name to download the video file to your computer. Once you've downloaded the file, you can then provide the files to students for download via Blackboard Learn courses, iTunes U, or other content management systems. Here's an example of an archive with subtitles, playing in iTunes.
