Hello and welcome to Automatic Sync Technologies' tutorial series on how to use the CaptionSync system. The topic for this tutorial is how to use the "redo" feature of CaptionSync. If you are not already familiar with the CaptionSync service, please view the "Getting Started with CaptionSync" video first. CaptionSync is a web-based service that allows you to quickly and easily submit audio or video content online and get back caption results in dozens of different formats for captioning web media, YouTube videos, podcasts, DVDs, and many other media formats. The "redo" feature is a powerful feature of CaptionSync that allows you to rerun your previous CaptionSync jobs in order to repair any problems with them. There is no cost to run a redo, and you can run as many redos on a job as you need to. The redo feature is available for 6 months after you initially submit your job. It takes just a few minutes to request a redo, and you will get the redo results back just minutes later. If you requested NLE movies for your original submission, they will automatically be regenerated with your new caption results after a redo. The redo feature is a powerful mechanism to help you get the very best results from CaptionSync. It can be used to: correct typos in the transcript, change the offset timecode for Broadcast result files, change the advanced settings to alter the caption formatting, select new output formats that were omitted in the original request, or to correct timing errors due to music, noise, or other problems in the original job. So, let's take a look at how to request a redo. First, log into your CaptionSync account. Click on the "Status of Existing Submissions" link - here you will find a list of all of your previous jobs. Locate the job you want to redo and click the job ID. Two things to observe about the job details page that comes up. The first is right near the top: the "Eligible for Redo" entry will tell you if you can still redo this job. Jobs older than six months will say "Ineligible". Notice also that you can click the question mark next to this to get more help on the redo feature. The second thing to note is the entry called "Text Transcript Submitted"; this is the transcript file that was used for your job. If AST created the transcript for you, this field will be called "Text Transcript Created". If you intend to alter the transcript, it is important that you make your alterations to the correct transcript file. Download the original transcript from here, and make your edits to this file before you proceed with the redo. Once you have your revised transcript ready, click on the Redo link. The Redo screen will present you with two options: "Upload revised transcript" if you want to change the transcript file, or "Change Settings" if you just want to alter the settings but keep the original transcript. If you choose to upload a revised transcript, you will also have the opportunity to change the settings as part of the same redo. If you choose to just change the settings, there is no need to upload a new transcript and the upload field will disappear. If you choose to revise the transcript, you will be able to browse to your edited transcript and upload it. Either way, you can click the "Advanced Settings" button to change the redo settings. Here you will be able to change any of the formatting settings, the offset time code for Broadcast results, or the selection of output types. When you are satisfied with your changes, click the "Apply Changes" button, and then finally the "Submit Redo" button. The submit process is very fast as there is no media file being uploaded. You will receive a status screen almost immediately, and your revised results will be emailed to you in just a few minutes. Note that redos can only be done on the original submission. If you visit the job details page of a redo job, it will direct you to the original job if you want to do another redo. One thing to be careful of here: if you want to preserve the transcript changes from your last redo, make sure that you make your new edits to your previously revised transcript before submitting the new redo. Note also that if you are attempting to redo a job that has other redos, and you are choosing to change only the settings, you will see an additional option available: you can change just the settings using the original transcript, or change the settings but use the transcript from the most recent redo. So, that is all there is to using the redo feature in CaptionSync. A couple of key things to watch for when using this feature: Make sure the job is eligible for a redo before you get started. Also make sure that you make your edits to the correct transcript file; do not attempt to make your edits to one of the caption result files as you will not be able to upload these to run a redo. The safest thing to do is to first visit the job details page and download your transcript file from there to ensure you are starting from the correct file. If your original transcript has markers or other markup codes in it, do not remove these for your redo; see AST's documentation on transcript format in the Help section of your account for more information about these markup codes. Finally, note that there are a couple things you cannot change for a redo: you cannot change the media file and you cannot add new services to a redo such as ResultReview or NLE outputs. Other than that feel free to experiment with the Redo feature -- it is intended to allow you to get the best results possible from the CaptionSync system.
